Brendan Lai Gongfu Institute will be in 7th PAW Championship in a few days in Campinas, SP, Brazil. Adgeferson Diniz will represent brazilian shanshou team in 85kg and he is student of Janio Lira that is student of Samuel Mendonça. Adgeferson Diniz won 1st place (Sanda) in 2005 (Milan, Italy - International Martial Arts Federation event). He also got 1st place in brazilian national competition in 2007. Congratuations for all nations are coming to Brazil this time.

I am very happy about gathering with my classmates in California this weekend because I had an opportunity to learn once more about Praying Mantis system with experience of my seniors about Sifu`s life and his legacy continuous in Sacramento, CA, with Dai Sihing Ron Aviles, in NY with Praying Mantis Martial Arts Institute of Tony Chuy Sihing, in Alameda, CA with Norman Tom Sihing and Mike Yee Sihing, in Hollywood with Sihing Mark Brigdes and in Brazil with our Brendan Lai Gongfu Institute. Brazilian Wushu Confederation (www.cbkw.org.br) held II South American Wushu Championship in San Paulo with Pan American Wushu Federation support. Brendan Lai Gongfu Institute of Brazil was there and our students got some medals with traditional wushu taolu department, with Bung Bo, Sei Lo Ban Dar, Ung Lang Gwan and Pek Gwa Darn Dou. Brendan Lai Gongfu Institute from Brazil completed 7 years of continuous activities. We will have a family party in close december with Lion Dance and Gongfu Demo and all of you here are welcome. Short history: Ph. D. Brendan Lai came to Brazil in 1999, 2000 and 2001 and he was unique graduated disciple from late Wong Hun Fun Sigung to teach in Brazil. It is good to share that what Lai Sifu taught in Brazil is an opportunity for hundred people to have an idea from how complex and interesting is Northern Praying Mantis and that we need a whole life of training to feel a little from this system. Thanks for my senior classmates from US in special Master Tony Chuy and his students from Praying Mantis Martial Arts Institute, NY, for teach me and help Brazil to get a piece of their own experience in Northern Mantis foundation. For my Sifu, thanks for teaching about life, respect, courtesy and mantis and this 7 years are just the start for a life...

Jânio Lira got FIRST PLACE in Broadsword Division and SECOND PLACE in Leitai Fight Division (74kg). Adgeferson Diniz got FIRST PLACE in Sanda Fight Division (85kg). Our school in Brazil will celebrate this saturday, september 24th Grand Master Brendan Lai spirit that is a foundation of brazilian Northern Praying Mantis gungfu, because he was a unique graduated disciple of Mantis King of Hong Kong, Wong Hon Fan, to teach Martial Arts in Brazil in 1999, 2000 and 2001. Some of brazilian students of Brendan Lai Gongfu Institute were selected to represent Brazil at 1st South American Wushu Competition that will be in Argentina in close june. Some of them will perform empty hand of Praying Mantis as Bunb Bo and Sei Lo Ban Dar. Others will perform weapon sets as Ng Hao Darn Dou and Fu Mei San Tie Gwan. One student from Acre (north of Brazil) will fight at 85p sanshou because he got 1st place last october at XV Brazilian Wushu Competition. Congratulations for all students.

The first ever Yau Kung Moon Open Martial Arts Championship was held on July 19 and 20th in Sacramento, California. An extraordinary event, the Open Championship brought together multiple martial arts disciplines and schools including Eagle Claw, Choy Li Fut, Tang Soo Do and Uechi Ryu Karate, Eskrima, Northern Praying Mantis, Chen-Yi-Yang-Wu Tai Chi Styles, White Eyebrow, Wing Chun, White Crane, and Hung Gar in the spirit of friendly competition and cooperation. Aside from forms and weapons competitions, a Master's Exhibition was held that Saturday evening. After a brilliant opening ceremony featuring the San Francisco Yau Kung Moon champion Lion Dancing team, there was a special presentation and tribute for Master Brendan Lai. After reading a moving tribute of Master Lai's accomplishments and contributions to the global Martial Arts community, the California Assistant Secretary of State presented a memorial placque to SiBart Ron Aviles, who accepted on behalf of Mrs. Brendan Lai, Master's Lai's wife, and their children, Alvin and Cristina. The Masters demonstrations following the presentation and featured notable performances by Chan Sau Chung (the Monkey King), YC Wong (Hung Gar high form), Yi De Kun (90 year old Yi Tai Chi master), and the teams of Tat Mau Wong (choi li fut), O-Mei WuShu, and Brendan Lai's Northern Praying Mantis Academy. The Northern Praying Mantis team of Ron Aviles, Ernie Layacan, Mark Bridges and Alana Layacan performed Gung Li Kuen, single and two man Bung Bo, White Ape Exiting the Cave and the First Essential Set. We dedicated our performance to the memory of our dear Master Lai.
